Here's some personal info on John J Cahill

John has been married to Stephanie Page Wurzer for 22 years and remains so today.

Stephanie, in the right on this photo with her sisters Dana and Lindsay, brought two daughters to their family, and Stephanie and John added one son, Ian.  John's family and friends can be seen in many of the photos on this web site.

John's family in Henderson, Santa Fe and Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Page, Arizona includes two sisters, stepdaughters and grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews, with one stepdaughter and grand twins living in Germany serving on assignment as civilian employees with the US Armed Forces, and a wide variety of in-laws.

John moved to Henderson in 1957 with his parents and younger sister, leaving an older sister in College in his birth place Kansas City, Missouri.  John attended St. Peter's Elementary School, graduated from Bishop Gorman High School, and attended Nevada Southern University (now UNLV).

John's father worked as a mason for over 40 years and was President of the Bricklayers Local in Las Vegas in 1960.  John Sr. worked on many of hotels including setting black volcanic stone at the Polynesian restaurant Aku Aku, famous in the 50's and 60's at the Stardust Hotel.

John's mother Dorothy worked PBX at the Sands Hotel during the notorious "Rat Pack" era and later at Nellis AFB.

John reported for the draft in 1965 and went to Los Angeles for his physical, but was rejected due to allergies.  There was a war going on in a place called Viet Nam and John was told the Army didn't need soldiers sneezing at the jungle.  There was much celebrating at the Alexandria Hotel that night by young men who knew they were going to war and some who would stay home.  Life was never the same for many.

John worked at Titanium Metals as a member of the Steelworker Union until left for his County job in 1966 at the Spring Mt. Youth Camp.  The Camp was then located at the "Lum and Abner" ranch in Lovell Canyon that was part of the Spring Mt. Ranch in the estate of Vera Krupp and left to the County as long as it was used to benefit youth.  That location was flooded out twice in 1968 and 1969 and John walked six miles into the Camp from "Snake Hill" on both occasions to help supervise the youth.  An Air Force helicopter rescued the youth and staff the first flood and graders and bulldozers cleared the road the second time.  In 1970 the Camp moved to Angel's Peak at Mt. Charleston where it is still located today.  John still receives treatments for allergies, but his heath is generally good, especially considering the obvious effect of too many pizzas.

Grand Twins Maxcy and Jackson Ross, at their present home near Heidelberg, Germany.  One of the reasons John decided to leave retirement is the cost of Air tickets for Grandma to see these two.  Now don't they deserve to see their Grandmumper?  Let's elect Cahill.
